One to One Counselling

Counselling is a one-to-one process that provides a framework for the counsellor to help a client overcome a problem that is affecting your life at the present time. My focus will be on exploring your experience, on raising your awareness in order to develop possibilities for overcoming the problem. Counselling will enable us to work together to develop a solution that satisfies your needs.

My belief, as a counsellor, is that while the client has the presenting problem, somewhere within you a solution lies waiting to be discovered. My role is to help you to access your inner wisdom, to tap into your potential, to discover new insights that have not been seen before, to allow the solution to emerge into awareness. My experience is that you will be much more willing to engage with change if you have identified, with the help and support of the counsellor, what needs to change for you and how. So, my focus is on you finding your own solution rather than me offering a solution to you.

Clients tell me consistently that talking in confidence to a counsellor, who is completely independent of your problem, is much more beneficial than talking to a friend of family member. A counsellor is not part of the problem so he can be a key part of finding a solution.

Some examples of the type of problems on which I either am working currently or have worked recently are listed below. I have many more examples that I could offer you :

Job loss
Bullying at work
Trauma following a road accident
Low self esteem
Lack of confidence
Excess drinking
Change in the workplace

‘You have helped me listen to my needs. I realise that my needs are often more important than other people’s. I am more willing to ask for help which I was always reluctant to do. The counselling has made such a difference to my life. I cannot thank you enough’
Christine ( Tettenhall )

‘Thank you would be an understatement of the year but I’m lost for any other words to express my total appreciation for the help, advice and support you have given to me. You have given me back my life for which I shall be eternally grateful’. Norman ( Telford )
